When your transmission isn’t shifting like it should, you need a shop you can trust — one that truly understands transmissions from the inside out. We’re Transmission Experts— It’s What We’re Known For

Transmissions are complex systems. They require specialized diagnostic skill and experience — not guesswork. That’s why customers throughout Eastern Jackson County, from Raytown to Oak Grove, and even from Warrensburg, come to us, as they trust us for transmission issues other shops won’t touch.

We take the time to identify the root cause of the problem. Then we explain your repair options clearly, so you can make the decision that’s best for you — no pressure, no unnecessary repairs, and no confusing technical jargon.

We don’t just fix transmissions — we help you understand your repair and feel confident in the work that’s being done.

Transmission Rebuilds (In-House)

Unlike many shops, we rebuild transmissions in-house. This allows us to ensure quality, use premium components, and tailor the repair to your vehicle’s exact needs. No outsourcing. No unknown workmanship. Just skilled, experienced, hands-on craftsmanship from ASE-certified technicians. It's a joke around the shop that we can tear down and put back together a transmission with our eyes closed, we are just that good.

Transmission Flushing and Fluid Service

Transmission fluid keeps your system cool, lubricated, and shifting smoothly. Over time, that fluid breaks down and collects debris, which can cause slipping, hard shifts, or premature wear. Whether you need a complete fluid exchange or a simple drain and refill, we use the manufacturer-recommended fluid and service procedures to protect your transmission and extend its life.

Wondering if you've waited too long for a fluid change? Bring your car in, and we can run a diagnostic to determine what is best for your vehicle.

5-Star Google Review

Fantastic service and super friendly. Took my 4Runner in for what I thought was transmission issues and they found the real issue that ended up costing me thousands less! Can’t speak highly enough about them.

5-Star Google Review

Gus’s Gears owned and operated by Gus is fantastic! I have sent many friends and family to him for years. He can do anything from regular maintenance to complex repair. He has replaced a transmission on an older Mustang, a motor on an older Dodge, brakes, pads, rotors, oil changes and so much more. He is the only mechanic I go to. I’ve even had cars towed to his shop because I only trust Gus!!!

Transmission FAQ's

  • Do I really need a transmission flush?

Sometimes. If your fluid is simply worn, discolored, or low, a fluid service can help extend the life of your transmission. However, if your transmission is already slipping or has internal damage, flushing it can make the issue worse. This is why we always perform a diagnostic evaluation first—we only recommend a flush if it’s beneficial for your vehicle.

  • How often should I change my transmission fluid?

It depends on your vehicle and driving habits. Many manufacturers recommend a transmission fluid service every 30,000–60,000 miles. If you tow, drive in heavy traffic, or have a work vehicle, servicing your transmission more frequently can prevent expensive repairs down the road.

  • What are signs my transmission needs service?

    Watch for:

    • Delayed or hard shifting
    • Slipping between gears
    • Burning smell
    • Red or brown leaks under your vehicle
    • High RPM without acceleration

If you notice any of these signs, schedule a courtesy inspection—we’ll evaluate before recommending any repairs.

  • Is it better to repair or replace a transmission?

Every situation is different. Sometimes a failing sensor or module is the only issue. Other times, a transmission rebuild or replacement is the most reliable and cost-effective solution. We’ll walk you through your options, explain what’s worth the investment, and help you decide what makes the most sense for you and your vehicle.

  • Do you offer rebuilt and remanufactured transmissions?

Yes, and we do all rebuilds in-house. We can also install remanufactured units when appropriate. Every build is backed by a nationwide ATRA warranty, so you’re covered wherever the road takes you.

  • Can I drive my car if the transmission is slipping?

We strongly advise against it. Driving with slipping gears can cause severe internal damage and increase repair costs. If your vehicle is unsafe to drive, we offer free towing with approved major repairs (within 25 miles).
