Gus’s Gears: We Solve Problems, Fix Cars, and Serve People
Meet Gus, Owner, Lead Technician & Visionary
Gus has been around cars his entire life. He grew up in his family’s dealership, Kratzberg Chevrolet, where he learned early on that taking care of people matters just as much as taking care of their vehicles. With over 25 years of professional experience—including years working on transmissions at Aamco in Lee’s Summit—Gus built Gus’s Gears to be the kind of shop people feel good bringing their cars to.
When the Aamco location closed, Gus didn’t want to leave the community he had spent years serving. So he stayed—opening his own shop in the very same building, with the same staff, and welcoming many of the same customers who trusted him before. That’s just who he is: loyal, steady, and committed.
“We solve problems, fix cars, and serve people.”
This isn’t just our mission—it’s how Gus lives, works, and runs his shop every day.
Here, you’re not just a ticket number or repair order. You’re a neighbor. And we’re proud to take care of you.
A Skilled, Down-to-Earth Team You Can Rely On
The team here is small, experienced, and proud of the work we do. We’re not a big shop that rushes jobs through — we take our time to make sure the repair is done right. Each technician at Gus’s Gears is certified, continually trained, and equipped to handle both routine services and the most complex driveline and transmission diagnostics.
We communicate clearly, we stand behind our work, and we treat every vehicle like it’s our own. Whether you’re here for a fleet check, a major repair, or routine maintenance, you’ll always be met with respect, honesty, and care.

Billy
About Billy
A half-century ago, Billy was coaxed from his mother's womb by the sound and smell of a 426 Hemi engine being revved to 8000 RPM. His mother has said he would refuse his bottle if it wasn’t first dipped in transmission fluid.
He is a father, a former firefighter, and a '70s mustache aficionado.
He graduated from Wyoming Technical College and has been working on cars his whole life. He started in the transmission business in 1993, and advanced to Builder in 1998. He has rebuilt thousands of transmissions with nothing less than perfection. People should consider themselves lucky to have Billy working on their car.
Gus said, "I have worked with Billy for 15 years, and I’m very fortunate to have him join me at Gus’s Gears."

Sean
About Sean
Sean came to the automotive industry 5 years ago, having a background in kitchens, banking, supply management, and customer service. He is the rudder of shop operations. He has learned the business very quickly, and his innate ability to communicate with clients effectively is his superpower. He will always have your best interests in mind, and is THE best guide on the path to solving your problems.
Sean’s client relations ability is only surpassed by his knowledge of music and pop culture. A Savant, he remembers music trivia by its smell. David Bowie smells like a persimmon to him. Jerry Garcia has the aroma of calamata olives with an undertone of charred hickory. Musicians call Sean when they are writing their biographies. On your next appointment, please try to stump him!
Gus said, "I’ve worked with Sean for five years, and like Billy, Gus’s Gears is a better place because he’s here."
